The first cruise ship, Celebrity Eclipse, is expected into Lyttelton on Thursday 27 October 2022. Lyttelton will welcome the first of more than 100 cruise ships that will visit Christchurch and Banks Peninsula over the coming months.
Lyttelton’s new cruise ship berth can accommodate cruise ships of all sizes and will host 85 cruise ship visits over the 2022/23 season. Akaroa will host 15 cruise ships over the season, with the first ship scheduled to arrive on 19 November.
Akaroa will have a temporary traffic management plan operating on days when larger cruise ships are in the harbour as well as providing parking advice to transport operators and installing appropriate signage.
CCC Transport and Parks staff will be working with Police to monitor the traffic and cruise ship-related activity throughout the season, and will make amendments as required.
Throughout the cruise ship season maintenance and servicing of public toilets and rubbish bins will be increased ensuring access to Akaroa Wharf is maintained for everyone.
