The consultation regarding the future of the Banks Peninsula (BP) Meats site, located at 67 Rue Lavaud, Akaroa, commonly referred to as the BP Meats Site, will be commencing soon. This presents a unique opportunity for members of the Akaroa and the Bays community and the wider Banks Peninsula region to have their say and contribute to shaping the future use of this important piece of local land.
Why your participation is important?
This consultation is a crucial step in determining how the BP Meats site will be repurposed. The land, which holds significant historical and commercial value, could potentially be used for a variety of projects that benefit the local community. Whether it becomes a space for local businesses, a community hub, or something entirely different, your input will play a key role in deciding its future.
Public participation in such consultations is essential for several reasons.
Firstly, it ensures that decisions are not made in isolation or solely by authorities without input from those who live and work in the area. The needs, concerns, and aspirations of local residents, business owners, and community groups are vital in making sure that the final decision reflects what is best for the community as a whole.
Secondly, public consultations offer an open platform for everyone to share their thoughts, regardless of their position or influence. Whether you have a specific idea in mind for how the BP Meats site should be used or simply want to listen to others and offer your feedback, your voice matters. Every perspective adds value, and often the best solutions arise from collaborative discussions involving a wide range of viewpoints.
The timeline for the consultation is:
- Timeline item 1
- =>Community input
