West Milton Fire
Five members of the Banks Peninsula Brigade crew were actively involved in responding to a recent fire at West Melton. Numerous other firefighters have worked diligently through the night to manage several flare-ups, ensuring that none of them breached the containment lines. Their expertise and teamwork were instrumental in keeping the fire under control and preventing it from spreading further.
Restricted Fire Season – Canterbury
Following a thorough assessment of the current fire risk and conditions, it has been decided to transition to a Restricted Fire Season from an Open Fire Season as of 1:00 am, Wednesday, 11th December 2024. This decision applies across the Canterbury Fire District, including the Canterbury Production Forests and Department of Conservation (DOC) lands.
Under the Restricted Fire Season regulations, all fires in the open will now require permits. This change is a proactive measure to mitigate the risk of wildfires during a period of heightened fire danger.
To apply for a fire permit or to obtain more information, please visit the Fire and Emergency New Zealand website or contact your local fire authority. Everyone is encouraged to exercise caution and comply with the new fire restrictions to help protect our communities, forests, and natural environments from the threat of fire.
